DisneyWorld Trip- Day 2

This morning we got up and had a great breakfast at the hotel. We love staying at Embassy Suites because they have a door between the “room” and the front room so it’s easier to “divide and conquer” with the kids at bedtime, and because they have GREAT free breakfasts there. In Atlanta they even have good old fashion grits on the menu (I don’t like grits, but that is definitely a southern specialty). Everyone filled up on cereal, eggs, french toast, bacon, sausage, biscuits and gravy, muffins, donuts, fruit, hot chocolate, juice, bagels, toast… etc… they even cook omelet’s and eggs to order for you. Alex is a huge fan of the breakfasts and he is old enough now that we let him go and gather whatever breakfast foods he wants, and he can go back for 2nds and 3rds all he wants while the rest of us are eating. Surprisingly he doesn’t just fill up on donuts. He usually has bagels and cereal and muffins and juice and waffles.

When we realized that we would be spending the night in Atlanta, we thought it would be a great opportunity to go and visit the Martin Luther King Memorial. It was 10 minutes from the hotel and we had plenty of time in the day to spend a couple of hours there.





We went through the museum, and then walked over to where he and his wife are buried. Then we walked up a few blocks to his birthplace and saw and learned about the different architectural types of homes that were common back then. It was a neat experience. I don’t know how much Angela and Alyssa will remember about that, but I think Alex and Ashley were able to learn a little more about Martin Luther King.

From there we headed back onto the Interstate and down to Florida. The drive was uneventful. The kids really did well on the trip and we didn’t really have many complaints from them. We got to our hotel around 6pm I think. We were staying at the Nickelodeon Hotel, the one that you see the commercials for on Nick Jr. It was a fun place… a huge water park type thing in the center of the courtyard, and a “mall” with food court, and shopping areas.

We went over to the mall and were very surprised at the quality of food that they had at their buffet. We filled up and then went and played in the water until it was dark. Then we headed back to the room. The kids loved it because they give these plastic bracelets that everyone wears. Then instead of having a room key to keep up with, the bracelet has a electronic tag thing wrapped in plastic that opens your room door. They asked Rich if they should program Alex and Ashley’s bracelets to open the room too, and he said sure, so Alex and Ashley were always running ahead of us to be the first to the door to unlock it for everyone. (Alyssa and Angela didn’t get theirs programmed, they were too young for that option).

That night the kids loved the fact that they each had their own bed. The Nick Hotel has one bed in a bedroom, and then a little 2nd bedroom with a curtain door that has a bunk bed, and the living room area has a pull-out bed on the couch. The girls all slept in the room with the bunk bed, and Alex took the front room. They both had tv’s in their “rooms” and went to sleep watching tv- something they never get to do at home.
