Well I wasn't able to go to the Y on Wed, since Alyssa had a fever. Yesterday morning I had planned on going early (5:45am) so I could exercise and come back home before Rich had to go to work. Angela decided to wake up at 3am and not go back to sleep. Finally at 5am I turned the tv on right next to our room and laid back down in bed to "listen" to her. Of course I fell fast asleep and when the alarm went off at 5:45 there was no way I was getting up to go exercise. lol! Angela crawled up into bed with me around 6:30 and went back to sleep and we slept in till 8am... the kids missed the bus, but Rich was able to take them to school so I didn't have to wake her up and drag her and Alyssa out in the cold to take them.
Since I wasn't able to exercise that morning, I got my exercise in last night at the Y. The dynamic is a lot different in the evenings there. There were lots of teenagers there. When I usually go during the day it's probably 2/3 mom's and 1/3 older men- not many teenagers at all. It was definitly different. :)
This morning Alyssa and Angela were both awake at 6am... they both wanted me to lay with them in their beds with them. Hearing each other and fighting over me - they both completely woke up and I was able to get them to play together upstairs. Alex's teacher mentioned yesterday that we might get some ice on the roads during the night so he was very dissapointed that school wasn't cancelled today. He just wanted to stay home all day and play on the computer. ha ha...
Today I'll keep Alyssa home again. She seems to be feeling much better, but she still had the fever last night so I'll keep her home today.

Well... I got two days of good exercise in a row in... I went to the Y on Monday, and then I went again on Tuesday. Tuesday I got a good workout on the elliptical, and then worked on building back up to running on the treadmill. I did 20 minutes of intervals and was feeling much better after it than I did on Monday! :)
I am sore though... the muscles are definitly protesting, but I just have to get through this initial first two weeks and then the day to day soreness is much less and I'm just sore if I really max out the muscles with weights.
Today will have to be a DVD at home though. Alyssa woke up in the middle of the night with a yucky cough, and a fever. The fever is gone this morning, but she still sounds pretty bad- so she'll be staying home from school today, and we'll be staying home from the Y this morning.
I'm really trying not to let the little voice in my head get me discouraged. It's saying "again... just as I'm getting into a routine someone gets sick and interrupts it- why do I try..." I'm ignoring it... what happens, happens and if I can't get to the Y because of a legitimate reason (kids are sick) it is not me failing at keeping my goal of exerciseing. I'll just have to make a bigger effort to get some exercise in at home on these days.

I'm back in the runnin...
Well trying to at least...
I'm getting back into my exercise routine that I've lapsed on for the last month and a half. I was grumpy on Saturday and Rich told me that I needed to go to the Y and get out some of my frustrations... he was right, it really does make a difference in my day to day stress level... :)
So I went Saturday, and I went again today... and my goal is to get back to the Y every day this week... except Sunday, and maybe Saturday... if I get there all the weekdays I think taking the weekend off will be fine.

Exercise
I got to the Y today again. I really really didn't want to go, but forced myself to get up and go...
I did an hour on the elliptical, and a round on the weight machines, and 100 crunches.

I forgot to do crunches though... oh well...

Being accountable
So I was thinking back to when I was really into a groove of exercising... back then I was posting on my blog, or a message board when I went and exercised each day, and what I did...
So I'll post it here. Anyone reading it can just gloss over it- I'm posting it for myself to keep myself accountable to myself... lol!
So I did 60 minutes on the elliptical today at the Y. Tomorrow I should do the weight machines, and at least 30 minutes of cardio on the elliptical or treadmill... and crunches... I need to do lots of crunches... I was feeling it from yesterday- last night and it's a good feeling. :)

Running milestone!
So this is a few days late... I'm going to change the post-date on this post so it is in chronological order...
But...
On Tuesday October 9th... I ran 2 miles straight!!!!!!! It's the first time I've ever been able to just run that long without taking a short walking break in the middle.
I've stalled out on my weight loss a little bit, but I'm still thrilled with what I was able to do. I'm at 153 lbs, so I'd still love to loose another 10-15 pounds, but I'll be fine loosing it slowly.

Just giving myself a pat on the back
So I've mentioned before how I was trying to exercise more. At the begining of July I was at my heaviest weight that I've ever been, except for the last few months of pregnancies and right after having babies. I was 173 pounds. I hid weight really well, but you could tell in my face and my arms that I was weighing more than what was ideal.
I've tried to increase my exercise and exercise at least 4 days a week and try to exercise 6 days a week. I am also trying to not snack on foods throughout the day like I used to. I had so many years of being pregnant or nursing where I had to eat every 2-3 hours that I got into the habit of eating and snacking, even though I really wasn't hungry. So I'm not dieting persay, I'm just trying to eat less than what I was.
I weighed myself this morning and I am at 156 pounds. That's 17 pounds! I'm shocked that I'm able to do this. For so long I've told myself that I have a sweet tooth and I would never be successful at not eating sweets because of that, but in the past two months I've been able to say no to treats most of the time. I still have an occasional dessert- about once a week on average, but the snacking on cookies or crackers or whatever is laying around in the pantry during the day- I've been able to really stop.
My goal is to get down to 140, so I'm halfway. I was 135 when I got married and I'd be thrilled to get back down to there, but for now my goal is to get down around 140.
It's just a good feeling to have made this goal and to really see the results already starting to happen. I just hope I can continue and get down to where I want to be.

ONE MILE!!!!!!!!!
Ok... so I've been exercising. It's kind of a two fold thing. I'm trying to loose weight since I really needed to loose about 40 pounds. I'm trying to exercise 6 days a week, but not stressing if I miss a day here or there. I'm also trying to get into running. I enjoyed running in jr high school, but have not really run since, and what running I did back then- wasn't intense or any long distance or anything.
So I've been slowly running short amounts of time, and walking between- doing intervals... last week I decided to just try and see if I could run for 10 minutes straight... and I did! It was so close to a mile, that today I decided I would try for the mile.
I ran a whole mile straight! I didn't stop, I didn't have to slow down throughout the mile. I went a whole mile at the same steady pace! WOOO HOOO!!! After the mile I did bump the pace down a little bit, but then I was still able to jog about 1/3 mile afterwards before I went down to walking. I'm finally seeing some progress and it is really cool!!
Also I lost 6 pounds since the begining of the month. I'm trying to stay away from the sweets, but I have eaten some- usually at special occasions. I'm not dieting, but just eating smaller portions and really thinking before I just munch and grab stuff to snack on. I've cut out a lot of my snacking and am finding out that I'm not really hungry when I snack, I'm just snacking to snack, and that makes it easier to just not grab those snacks. :)

Exercise
So... again I'm re-dedicating myself to exercise more. I'm also not eating as much now too... so hopefully I can see some results. I've exercised every day this week, and today I'm feeling very sore. I am so tempted to not go and to just stay home and take a break today- but I know that in my mind if I miss one day- it leads to two and on and on. For me routine is so critical. I did sleep in later that I should have this morning, so I will wait and go to the Y this afternoon when the childcare is available then. If I went now, by the time we got there we would only have an hour until childcare was closed- until later today when they open it up again.
I've gone to the Y on Mon, tues, and thursday this week. On Wed it was closed because of the holiday and I went over to the highschool and ran and walked on the track there. There was a group of people doing a workout with sprints and stuff when I got there and a few of them had artificial legs. It was really neat to watch them working out and running at such a great level- they were the ones leading the workout and you could tell that they pushed themselves even harder than they were pushing the other runners. It was really inspiring to watch. I also enjoyed being outside on the track. It was hot and humid and if I'm going to start doing it on a regular basis I'll have to go earlier in the day when it isn't quite so hot, but it was a nice change of pace to working out inside at the Y.
