In June Rich had a convention in Orlando. I took advantage of the opportunity and flew out and joined him that friday and left the kids at home. The first night we got to stay at the Hilton where he had been for the convention, and then we went and stayed at Disney's Yacht Club hotel. It was really neat! We had a balcony that looked out and I could watch the boardwalk.
Friday night we went to the California Grill Restaurant. It's on the top floor of the Disney's Contemporary Hotel right by the Magic Kingdom. We wanted to get a table by the windows that look out to the Magic Kingdom so we could watch the fireworks over at the park while we were eating, but we didn't realize that while we had reservations for the right time, we needed to get there early to get a table by the window during that time. Oh well... we were put back in the Wine room... kind of funny since we don't drink, but it was quieter and neat. The food was really good and we had a good time. :)
On Saturday we got up and checked out of the Hilton and went and checked in early at the Yacht Club. Then we drove over to Universal Studios and went to Islands of Adventure. I was not thinking at all and wore my new cute sketchers shoes... by the time we had walked from the car to the ticket booths... I already had blisters!!! Dumb choice on my part! So I suffered throught the day with those on. Rich had to slow down and walk slowly for me, but we had a fun time. The Hulk ride is really neat, and the dueling dragons ride was cool! The log ride really really gets you soaking wet and if you somehow didn't get wet on it, the raft ride takes care of any dry spots you have left!
We thought the park would be packed being a Saturday in June, so we had bought the fast pass tickets so we could use those on all the rides. Apparently people don't line up at the opening time as much and sleep in and then go to the Universal parks, so we were able to get through the lines pretty fast in the morning without using the fast pass tickets at all. Later in the day we pulled them out and used them on a few things. It always amazes me at how fast we can get through a park when it's just Rich and I. Everything takes so much longer with all the kids. We had gone on all the rides by 2pm and headed back to the hotel to relax a little while before dinner. That night we went to my favorite restaurant for dinner- Boma... I just love that place. The flavors are just so unique and something that I can't find here in Oklahoma.
On Sunday we went over to Epcot. Epcot is a fun place to go, but it's a lot funner to go without kids. It's neat to walk along the world showcase and see stuff around there, but kids usually don't have the patience and it isn't as interesting for them. While we were there it was HOT, and then it rained... and it cooled off a bit. We went on the new revamped Spaceship Earth ride and that was fun. We went to dinner at the Morroccan restaurant. It had looked interested in the stuff I had read about it, and it wasn't bad, but I don't think we'll go there again. There are too many other restaurants in Epcot that are much better. Then we went back to the hotel to rest for a while (we could just walk from the hotel to Epcot... very cool!) and then came back to watch the night time show and fireworks. Then we went and got dessert at the soda shop at our hotel. It was yummy and fun. There were a couple groups of kids that went and got the "kitchen sink" (a huge bowl of icecream and toppings) and they had races to see which group could eat the whole thing the fastest! lol!
On Monday we drove over to Universal Studios and went there. Again when we first got there it was empty! There were barely any people there and we went through the lines and walked right onto the rides... no waiting at all! We rode the Mummy twice with no wait- just walking right on! The rides and shows were fun... and we had a good time. :) I do have to say though that if you go to the Shrek 3d show... do NOT go to the right side of the "holding tank" (yes that's what it feels like when they cram everyone into a room to wait for the show!) We were in the fast pass line and got into the room first... and went over to the far right like they tell everyone... and then everyone else loaded in after us. WHen they opened the three small doors ON THE LEFT of the room, for people to then flow into the theatre we got stuck over on the right... and didn't get seats! We had to stand in the holding area for another waiting period and then got in to see the show. THey gave fast pass tickets to those of us that were inconvenienced... but it still was annoying... I could rant and rave about how I really really do not like the popular "holding tank" design of the shows and stuff... but I'll save that for another day and post... That night for dinner we went to Yachtsman's Steakhouse at our hotel... high prices, high quality... It was good though even though at times I feel way out of my element- choosing what type of steak to order... I don't know the difference between them! :)
We had a great time and it was so nice to be able to have this little trip with just the two of us. It really gave us time to sit and talk and relax and just have some quiet time together. :)
