My first 5K

Drumroll please.......

I came in LAST place!!!!!

Really I did...

That's okay though. I FINISHED IT! and that's what I was shooting for. It was cold, in the 40's and the air was damp and wet to breath. I've never run outside before this, only inside on a treadmill.

I started off in the pack, and slowly dropped back and then farther back and then farther back. By the halfway point me and two other ladies were definitly bringing up the end of the race. They were friends and I "joined" and ran/walked with them for the remainder of the race.

Here's the two pictures I have. The first is before the race with my three friends that were running too, and the second picture is with the two ladies that I ran with for the last half of the race.

My time was 37:50 I think it was a respectable finish for my very first 5k. There were only 83 people that ran the 5k, and a lot of them were serious runners that have run them many times 3/4 of the people ran it in under 30 minutes. I've looked at other 5k's and if I had this time in them I would have been on the back side of the pack, but not dead last like I was this time. :)

I'll definitly be doing this again, but with some more serious training. Next time I want to be able to run a lot more of the distance.

At least you finished and didn't give up. I'm sure it will get better with more training.

Way to go Julie!! I think that it's great that you did the 5K no matter where you came in. And that picture of you and the two ladies that you ran with? You don't even look like you ran a 5K! I'd be all red and sweaty and you would definitely be able to tell. Good Job!

YAY Julie!!! I was thinking of you on Saturday and wondering how you did. You are right in that 37 min IS a respectable time for your first 5K. I think my first 5K was right around 36-37 min as well - it was the St. Patty's Dash in Seattle, one of the largest 5K's ever, so that time put me about mid pack. The field that a race attracts really makes a huge difference in placement and sounds like this was a small and fast field. But seriously, that time is probably about average for most peoples' first 5K's. You did very very well!! I bet that was a big feeling of accomplishment and pride!
